How good do architects really need to be at math?
I was thinking about being an architect, however, one of my concerns is the amount of math required. I am not bad at math but I am also not a math wiz. So would slightly above average math skills be enough to tackle a career in architecture or would be better of applying myself elsewhere.
I took up an engineering course and usually the math encountered by the students in the architecture division would also be taken by us. Fast thinking and good logical reasoning are the basic criteria in passing any math subject. But I do believe that even though you have the brains but without the perseverance and will to learn, it all will be put into waste. So my advise is just practice more Math and solve as much as math problems as you can. In the long run, you would see a pattern and it would all be easy for you.
Very good, you don’t want to live in a little crooked house!

Of course, you will need to be strong in trigonometry and calculus. You should also take physics.

i study architecture in the UK and am not amazing at maths! what are calculators for?!! obviously you need to know some things but you can refer to books. they never ask you maths questions in exams so you will only need mahs very occasionally for design projects. to be honest i’ve never had to use any complicated maths in the 2 years i’ve been studying it.
