I think this hs …
I think this hs probably got a bit of post-production going on, but they’ve got another video which shows them setting up and mapping the building. Either it’s really quite dark in this video, or they just fine-tuned it.

Yup.
The program …
Yup.
The program they are using is Cinema 4D by Maxon. Used it enough to be able to tell from this.
They will take a camera with the same mm lense as their projectors.. take a picture from where the projector will be and then map that image out in Cinema 4D as a virtual object.
Then render it on black with the desired effect.
As it has been virtually made they can then apply effects like ’shatter’ to specific parts which is what we see here.

This looks CG …
This looks CG because there are reflective surfaces which aren’t reflecting. I mean I guess anything is possible, but some of this looks a little too real to be real. Additionally I would point out that there doesn’t seem to be any origin light coming from the projectors. Every time we project with our 15k stack you can clearly see the source point from all the particles floating around in the air, even in the cleanest of venues. *shrugs*
Look, it looks CG …
Look, it looks CG because it IS CG just being projected onto a building. If you take a look at the Volvo ad projection on Nuformer’s uploads, you will see proof (a huge crowd staring at a building and more than one angle) that it is done using a projection system. One thing to note however is that the angle at which you view the projection on the building drastically affects how it looks (obviously since the buildings are 3D themselves). So does the lighting around the building.

Who’s playing that funky music white boy?
This looks …
This looks interesting, except I don’t understand, even with a nice projector setup (which I have) how you can reproduce this effect without massive reflections off of many objects on these buildings. To me it looks very CG. If this is truly a rockstar projection setup, these guys should have someone do a better job proving its real with something that clearly shows the buildings at night.
… That would be …
… That would be caused by the camera lens. Similar to if you made your eyes lose focus looking at a light you see lines coming out of the light which don’t actually exist.

I would have to …
I would have to disagree with you… I have seen some of this stuff with my eyes. Granted.. you couldn’t do this with your standard conference room projector, but with a $30-40k 10,000 watt projector… you could easily do anything with it
This stuff isn’t …
This stuff isn’t real. Look at the white “projection” 3.12. Shines to much outside the building.

No way! Some of those projections look way too real to be projections alone! Holy crap. That’s just amazing. Wish I could see it in person.
