Ive been dancing for 12 years mostly in ballet lyrical and jazz but i want to do a contemporary solo. I wasn’t sure if this was the best route to take considering i’m not sure if a ‘modern‘ dance would be better for me?
I think Ktennn must be correct for competition dance. My answer is for professional concert dance and Contemporary dance is quite different then SYTYCD in the professional world of dance.
That would be companies like Aszure Barton, Doug Varone, Shen Wei, Gallim dance and choreographers like Mats Ek, Ohad Naharin and Jiri Kylián.
Modern dance has rules that Contemporary dance does not. Martha Graham, Limon, and Horton are always danced barefoot. It is very grounded and the movements follow strict guidelines. contemporary has no rules and can be danced bare foot en pointe in socks or anything else they could think of. Here are some examples of some great contemporary pieces. They range from quite balletic to pedestrian in movements. This is what you would see taught at schools like Juilliard but not at competition schools.

MEET WILL WINGFIELD
Will began training at age nine at D.C. Dance Factory in Nashville, TN. At age 15, Will was noticed by one of the true pioneers of the arts, Mrs. Debbie Allen. Soon thereafter, he moved to L.A., and went on a full scholarship at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, where he had the opportunity to train in nine different forms of dance technique. While on scholarship at D.A.D.A he had the pleasure to do five full-length plays, written and directed by Mrs. Debbie Allen. He starred in four principal roles, and served as one of her assistant choreographers on a play she was choreographing, and directing in Beirut Lebanon. Will joined Terry Beemans Co. for two years, appearing in two of his full length shows; Bound and La Piccolo Concerto. He danced in the 57th Annual Emmy Awards in the very first competition of Emmy Idol. Will had the experience of being a part of the skeleton crew, for the Paramount Pictures movie Dreamgirls. After graduating high school Will moved to Las Vegas to be a part of A New Day by DRAGONE, staring the world renowned Celine Dion. Most recently Will was one of the Top 8 finalist on Season IV of So You Think You Can Dance. Will has been fortunate enough to work for, and train with, some of the most talented Artists still around today.

What is a good contemporary reading for a wedding?
I am having two of my male best friends read a piece at our wedding, since I cannot recognize them in our bridal party, but, would still like to make them an important part of the ceremony. Does anyone have any good suggestions for either a one part or two part reading that is more contemporary and modern? I have my aunt and uncle (my godparents) reading I Corinthians, so I would like to keep that as the only classic Wedding reading. Thanks for your help!
