PostHeaderIcon What is the cheapest core processor that is good for gaming?

I would like a core processor that is good at running games like Grand Theft Auto IV or Crysis on High.It could be a dual core, a triple core or a quad core.I would like the price to be around $100 – $250 or higher if necessary but I want the cheapest one available on the market. Thanks.

Athlon II X4 620, 2.6GHz quad-core for $100
Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition (great overclocking) 3.2GHz for $165 (recommended)
Intel i5 750, 2.66GHz quad-core, 2.66GHz for $200 (Intel recommendation)

PostHeaderIcon Can I change the processor in my computer?

Hey, my computer has been running slowly lately, so I am planning on upgrading the memory, and I was wondering If I can change/upgrade the processor along with it. My computer is a Compaq Sr2170nx. The processor is an Intel Pentium 4 cpu 3.00 ghz (2 Cpus). It has 848 mb memory. Can I change or upgrade the processor, if so how? Thanks.

Just so you know a pentium 4 does not have 2 cpus. You could upgrade it but you wont get a much better processor. You are better off buying a new computer.

Supports the following processors:
Pentium D 900 series (Pressler, 65nm)
Pentium 4 601 series (Cedar Mill, 65nm)
Celeron D 3xx series (Cedar Mill, 65nm)
Celeron D 3xx series (Prescott, 90nm)

PostHeaderIcon I have a 3ghz processor running on my 64bit system. How can i maximize the use of the processor?

I have a 3ghz processor running on my 64bit system. In system info it reads 3.00 ghz than after it reads 1.50 ghz. Does this mean that the system is only using half of the processor. Is there a way i can get it to use more?

The only way you can get it to use more is by doing more stuff on your computer, for example, gaming. That processor is a very good one by the way. You could do some nice gaming with it. It’s not bad that your processor isn’t being used to it’s full potential. If you have a good graphics card, then you have a really nice computer.

PostHeaderIcon Can you upgrade your processor as opposed to buying a new computer?

I have a AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ and a ATI Radeon X1950 Pro video card, with 2 gigs of RAM

I want to be able to play GTA IV but my processor is too slow. Can a buy a new, fast processor and install it into the mobo?

Yes, you sure can!

But you may Also want to Upgrade your Video Card as well!!
Depending on how much you are Willing to Spend:

An Athlon 64 X2 5200+ is about $65+Shipping @ Newegg.com,
And a Powercolor Radeon HD3850 512MB Video Card is just $70 right now on Newegg!!

So, for about $140, you can Upgrade Both your CPU & Video Card.

PostHeaderIcon Can a processor on a fishing vessel be promoted to deckhand?

I’m a 16 year old dropout and I’ve been hired as a processor on a salmon fishing boat in Alaska. Do processors get promoted to deckhands, if not what do they get promoted to?

Probably not. Deckhands need a lot of skills that a slime-line worker does not have. If you pay attention and express an interest in deckhand work, they might move you up to that position eventually, but on those boats, it’s all about putting in your time

PostHeaderIcon What is the best processor for internet use on a laptop?

My family is looking to upgrade our current computers. We play basic games and mostly use the internet. What would be the best processor/brand to get the best out of our cable based internet and the best value for our money?

it really doesn’t matter, the internet loads things way slower than any modern computer. I haven’t been keeping up on the very latest processors, but you don’t need one of the very latest processors to get the most out of the web. The way it used to be (and quite probably still is) is that you could get more bang for your buck out of an AMD processor than an Intel, but they both have discount lines (AMD Sempron, Intel Celeron) Don’t get the latest and greatest processor if you’re not playing the latest and greatest games (or editing HD video or rendering 3d animation).

PostHeaderIcon How do I convert a dual processor computer into a single processor computer with an awesome graphics card?

I am a Mac fan and a few of the old Mac Pros came with dual processors, I was wondering if I could tell the Mac to use one processor for graphics and one as a normal processor. I am interested if I could do this from a PC too.
Thanks.

CPU’s don’t make outstanding graphics processors. Nearly all GPUs today rely on a principle called ‘vector processing’ or SIMD processing (single instruction multiple data). They’re designed to perform a single operation on large chunks of data simultaneously, something that’s needed when calculating how 3D placing, lighting, shading, and texture filtering affect what color the pixels on the screen need to be for a proper image.

The CPU is what’s called a super-scalar processor, which essentially works on one thing at a time with a little bit of a bonus when program execution allows for multiple instruction pipelines. That helps a single-minded processor get slightly more than one instruction done per clock cycle (scalar is 1 operation per clock cycle, super-scalar is more, sub-scalar is less). A second core simply means you have 2 super-scalar processors in a single package.

So even if you could dictate an ‘extra’ core’s responsibilities to video alone, the end result wouldn’t be that impressive. While I don’t know exactly what the performance would be like I wouldn’t be surprised if a 3GHz super-scalar CPU core were left in the dust by a 400MHz vector processing GPU.

PostHeaderIcon What is a good processor to replace my old one?

I currently have a Pentium 4 HT 3.00 Gz single core and i would like to upgrade it so i could run games like halflife 2 and doom 3 on ok settings. So what processor would be good ? It would have to be the same socket as the one I already have so my motherboard can support it. So which one could be good. I’d like a dualcore.

A cost efficient upgrade would be the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ 3.00 Ghz.

PostHeaderIcon What is the best processor available for gaming?

I’m building a gaming rig, and I want to know which processor out there is the best for hardcore gaming? any information on suggestions would also be great, but don’t trouble yourselves.

Well that would depend on what you want to spend, what other gear you already have have and what games you play?

Most games cannot take advantage of Quad cores so I would not spend on that. I7 are the best but also the most expensive by far..

If you are not looking to break the bank and like to play with this kind of stuff build a overclocking rig with a 775 socket and a decent MB from newegg that overclocks well. Serious gamer – look into crossfire or SLI MB that have multiple slots for graphic cards.

I’d go with Intel E8400 duel core 3 Ghz and overclocks easy.

Go with at least 4Gig and a better Graphic card ( ATI 4850 or better)

PostHeaderIcon What processor should I upgrade to from an Intel Celeron?

I’d like to upgrade from an Intel Celeron with a processor speed of 1.8GHz to something a bit higher. My processor is single core.
I don’t know the motherboard model number but I know that the entire computer’s model number is 513n and that company is HP.

The best you could do is a 3ghz p4 and even that isn’t very good really. Can’t you just get a new low end PC. They are not very expensive anymore.
