Can you upgrade your processor as opposed to buying a new computer?
I have a AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ and a ATI Radeon X1950 Pro video card, with 2 gigs of RAM
I want to be able to play GTA IV but my processor is too slow. Can a buy a new, fast processor and install it into the mobo?
Yes, you sure can!
But you may Also want to Upgrade your Video Card as well!!
Depending on how much you are Willing to Spend:
An Athlon 64 X2 5200+ is about $65+Shipping @ Newegg.com,
And a Powercolor Radeon HD3850 512MB Video Card is just $70 right now on Newegg!!
So, for about $140, you can Upgrade Both your CPU & Video Card.
Yes you can install a new one, but you have to make sure you get a processor with the right socket as your mobo.
For your processor any of the AMD athlon X2’s will work. i would go for a 5600+ or better to play the GTA IV

I wont recommend u to spend that money just to play a game..
Lol..
I would prefer to play it in Xbox..
If u really want to upgrade u processor, it depends on what motherboard u are using now..
Some motherboard cant support processor that you would like to upgrade to.

if you have a socket am2 motherboard, theoretically you should have no problems installing a new phenom processor into it. The only thing you might require is a BIOS update. I said theoretically, because it assumes that the board manufacturer didn’t screw up designing your motherboard.
I would recommend the AMD Phenom 8450 Toliman 2.1GHz 3 x (only $89 on newegg.com) [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103254&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Processors+-+Desktops-_-AMD-_-19103254] If you have a bit more to spend, go with the phenom 9950 black edition (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103291)
