MEET WILL WINGFIELD

Will began training at age nine at D.C. Dance Factory in Nashville, TN. At age 15, Will was noticed by one of the true pioneers of the arts, Mrs. Debbie Allen. Soon thereafter, he moved to L.A., and went on a full scholarship at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, where he had the opportunity to train in nine different forms of dance technique. While on scholarship at D.A.D.A he had the pleasure to do five full-length plays, written and directed by Mrs. Debbie Allen. He starred in four principal roles, and served as one of her assistant choreographers on a play she was choreographing, and directing in Beirut Lebanon. Will joined Terry Beemans Co. for two years, appearing in two of his full length shows; Bound and La Piccolo Concerto. He danced in the 57th Annual Emmy Awards in the very first competition of Emmy Idol. Will had the experience of being a part of the skeleton crew, for the Paramount Pictures movie Dreamgirls. After graduating high school Will moved to Las Vegas to be a part of A New Day by DRAGONE, staring the world renowned Celine Dion. Most recently Will was one of the Top 8 finalist on Season IV of So You Think You Can Dance. Will has been fortunate enough to work for, and train with, some of the most talented Artists still around today.

BZ Contemporary Class – Gina Starbuck – Solo

MEET GINA Gina Starbuck, a native of Fresno, California, is one of the hottest performers on the scene. She recently finished a long run with the LA company of the broadway hit Wicked, as the Witchs Mother. She has received endless amounts of awards and recognition for her work as a dancer/choreographer, as well as being a respected and accomplished singer and actress. Adding to her artistic abilities, Starbuck’s unique sense of style and fashion earned her a full page spread in one of Japan’s most prestigious magazines, Woofin’ Girl and a style feature in online dance magazine Gendance. At the age of 17, Gina traveled and performed with the contemporary dance company MKF Altered Modalities, winners of the 2000 Jazz World Congress. At 18, she was assistant Choreographer for the Miss California Pageant. She attended college at Chapman University, where she was awarded Freshman of the Year in Dance, and was selected to perform at the Kennedy Center. Since Gina arrived in Los Angeles, she has worked with artist such as Prince, Lindsay Lohan, Gavin Degraw, Gene Simmons, Josh Kelly, and many more. Her skills as a teacher and choreographer have taken her around the world, and her work has won awards at numerous competitions and conventions, including NYCDA and CO Dance. She is on faculty at many prestigious studios and dance conventions including The Edge Performing Arts Center, Millennium Dance Complex, Debbie Reynolds Studios, Celebrity Dance and Muse Dance Co. Appearing in a variety television shows, films, and commercials, Starbuck’s credits include Bring It On 3 and 5, Y & R, Passions, AXE, and Visa- for which she worked with Emmy Award winning choreographer, Mia Michaels. She has assisted many top choreographers, including Brian Friedman, Bobby Newberry, Andre Fuentes, and Blake McGrath. You can catch her strutting her stuff on Blakes instructional DVD Dance Driven. In the summer of 2009, Gina had a successful launch of her hip, unique and affordable line of accessories, Star Beat. She uses her success as an outlet to help others, contributing to many charities. In 2007 she created and founded Art4Life, which is now an annual event involving numerous artists in support of the American Cancer Society and in honor of her father. In 2008, Gina performed with American Idol Finalist Adam Lambert at her Art4Life event and will be joining him as a dancer for his 2010 tour! She will continue to grow and achieve her goals, and will always give back!

BZ Contemporary – Donyelle Jones – Groups

MEET DONYELLE

Donyelle Denise Jones is a talented and successful dancer, choreographer, director, teacher, singer and actress. She was born July 3, 1979, in Los Angeles, California, to Charles and Mary Jones. She is the youngest of three children of a military family. Ms. Jones chose her dance career at the age of six. Her love of dance and interpreting stories through movement was cultivated by her mentor, Broderick Wilson, until his death October 10, 1997. Following Mr. Wilsons death, Ms. Jones began her formal dance training under the direction of Lara Arnaiz at Extensions Performing Arts Academy in Lancaster, California at the age of eighteen. She studied ballet, jazz, modern dance and hip hop as well as acting and sing. Currently, Ms. Jones is choreographer for the new spectacular Las Vegas Show at the Venetian starring Wayne Brady. During 2006, she received national attention as a finalist on the show, So You Think You Can Dance. She has been featured in musical theatre productions such as Hair, Nutcracker, and many more. Ms. Jones taught and directed the dance program at Palmdale High School for three years. Additionally, she taught at Orange County High School of the Arts. Ms. Jones teaches at Millennium Dance Complex, Debbie Allen Dance Academy, Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio, Golds Gym in Hollywood, Extensions Performing Arts Academy and at various dance conventions in the United States as well as Canada. Additionally Ms. Jones has been featured in music videos, movies and award shows. Her accolades include working with Missy Elliot, Shanice Wilson, The Game, Black Peas, and Master P. Ms. Jones has appeared in movies such as Be Cool and Beauty Shop. Emphasizing body movement, use of space, facial expressions and costume design through creative choreography continue to define Ms. Jones passion.

ARTVOICE described Configuration Dance Theatre and its choreographers in “Balanchine and Beyond” (9/20/2009): “As their name implies, their emphasis widens the scope of dance and dramatic, a certain noir-ness, they lay bare emotions, startle senses, and make one think,” qualities DANCE MAGAZINE experts saw early, and gave CDT its descriptive moniker, “A LIVING ART GALLERY.”

CDT was featured in “DANCE SPECTACULAR” (9/22/09) by its producer, New York City Ballet star, Daniel Ulbricht, with Boston Ballet and New York City Ballet stars in “Apollo,” “Who Cares, “Diamond” and “Tarantella” authorized by the Balanchine Foundation, with Michael Shannon’s WHAT’S THE POINTE, Susan Jaffe’s ROYENNE, Joseph Cipolla’s BREATHLESS, “whose acclaimed company,” said Ulbricht, “is known for its cutting-edge contemporary choreography.”

After CDT premiered over 15 new ballets from 2005 to 2009, THE BUFFALO NEWS (1/02/09) named co-Founder, Artistic Director Joseph Cipolla, and Michael Shannon, Resident Choreographer, THE DREAM TEAM, respected from illustrious careers with legendary dance institutions, both principal stars for BIRMINGHAM ROYAL BALLET under the patronage of HRH Queen Elizabeth II, Prince of Wales, Lady Sarah Chatto, and Artistic Director, David Bintley.

Artistic Director Joseph Cipolla was a principal star for Dance Theatre of Harlem co-founders, Arthur Mitchell (New York City Ballet) and Karel Shook (Dutch National Ballet), Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet for Artistic Directors Sir Peter Wright, David Bintley. He was a 1993 Lawrence Olivier Award Nominee; 2006 St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute Wall of Honor Awardee; Artvoice Best Dance Company Award in 2008 and 2009, and co-founded Configuration School of Dance in 2009. He retired in 2002 but returned to BRB in 2007 to dance Nimrod in “Enigma Variations” and De Guiche in “Cyrano.”

Companies have premiered 40 Michael Shannon contemporary ballets since 1995, in addition to his plays, films and opera in Europe and USA. He has created 11 new works for CDT since 2005, and revised his “Yumeji” and “Madame Bovary” for CDT co-Founder, Catherine Batcheller, principal star for Stuttgart Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, who portrayed Emma Bovary with Momchil Mladenov, principal star for Suzanne Farrell Ballet, National Ballet of Bulgaria, as Léon Dupuis, literature’s most famous illicit lovers.

In 2007, Susan Jaffe, principal star for American Ballet Theatre, and guest artist for the Kirov, Vienna State Opera Ballet, Royal Swedish Opera Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, Royal Ballet of Covent Garden, English National Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, Munich State Opera Ballet, La Scala Ballet in Milan, Dance Magazine Awardee, author, actress, television host, educator, Advisor to ABT Board of Governing Trustees Chairman 2002-2007, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School faculty since 2002, and Duke Corporate Education Lecturer on Excellence, joined the CDT National Advisory Board and is the company’s Principal Guest Choreographer.

Michael Shannon danced (1979-2002) his last roles for Birmingham Royal Ballet as Lancelot in David Bintley’s “Arthur” and Prince Siegfried in Sir Peter Wright’s “Swan Lake. He was a principal star, and ballet competition judge for Bolshoi Ballet legends, Artistic Director Yuri Grigorovich; Stars of the Bolshoi for Maya Pliesetskaya, Madame Sophia Golovkina, Natalia Bessmertnova, Ekatrina Maximova, Vladimir Vasiliev; Vienna State Opera Ballet for Artistic Director Elena Tchernichova (ABT, Kirov); Kremlin Palace Ballet for Director Andrei Petrov, Vladimir Vasiliev, Ekatrina Maximova; and others, i.e., Royal Ballet 1979; Los Angeles Ballet 1980, American Ballet Theatre 1981; Boston Ballet 1983; National Ballet of Canada 1984; Royal Swedish Opera Ballet 1986; Hungarian State Opera Ballet; Awarded Silver Medals in Paris France 1992 and Budapest Hungary 1993 International Ballet Competitions; Honored by Town Hall of California 1986, 1990; President George H. W. Bush 1990, President William J. Clinton 1993; Best Play of 1995, “Monday After the Miracle” televised at the Moscow Art Theatre; Awarded Professor of Choreography, Ukrainian State Academy of Ballet 1999; 2008 YAGP Outstanding Choreographers Award; Artvoice Best Dance Company Award 2008 and 2009.
